The important factors in wage and hour lawsuits are time and money. Finding the right balance is a matter of knowing the rules.
Rather than subjecting you to my writing today I am going to expose you to the writing of four excellent attorneys who also write great blog posts. The common theme to these four posts is wage and hour issues. This is important with the new exempt regulations looming on the near horizon.
Minimum wage issues
The first post to read deals with the $15 per hour minimum wage. My friend Jon Hyman at the Ohio Employers’ Law Blog raises some issues that he had not thought about. I had not either and I doubt too many have. It has a much bigger impact than we thought. You can find out these issues by reading The $15 minimum wage is an employee-relations nightmare.
How much do you know?
My friend Robin Shea has a wage and hour test that you may or may not be able to pass. Test yourself and find out. In the meantime you will learn some lessons by reading Oh, joy! A wage payment quiz!
Part-timers
Are part-timers always non-exempt employees? Does the US Department of Labor care? You can find the answers to these questions by reading Rue Dooley’s FLSA Answers on the SHRM blog. You may be surprised by the answers.
Fluctuating overtime
Fluctuating overtime is a way to pay salaried non-exempt employees for the overtime they work. It turns out that there is more than one method to do this. You learn something every day. So for your learning opportunity read Two Fluctuating-Workweek Variations by John Thompson.
Reeling with education
At the end of reading these four posts you will reeling from the knowledge you have gained. You may have to go back and read them again. It will be worth it. Wage and hour lawsuits are expensive. Save yourself time and money by knowing how to do things correctly.
